Eight Days in Seoul's Story - Day 2

Monday, 12th November 2018

Gyeongbokgung Palace- Samcheongdong Street - Myeongdong Underground

Today we ate bread as our breakfast and we added that strawberry-red bean mochi that we bought yesterday in Myeongdong. After that short breakfast, we took bus near the Myeongdong station gate. Near the bus stop, there were yellow gingko trees that looked so adorable.

Then we got the bus and dropped off at Gyeongbokkung palace. We took a walk to random restaurant to grab some late lunch. We planned to wait for the sun to be a litte set, so we had lunch before entering the palace. We ate bulgogi, bistik, egg omelette and kinda beef soup with bean sprout.

Tips of the day:

* Seoul's fashion in fall season? Just use as many neutral and basic color for this season. You can choose khaki, mustard, brick red, black, brown, army, purple, orange pumpkin or dusty pink.
* Always use longjohn and use shawl whenever you go, the temperature in autumn is not as cold as winter, but Korea is windy and become colder at night.

* Bring thermos bottle and you can make hot coffee, tea or milk inside it, so not spending too much time and money to get a hot or warm drink (mineral water a.k.a mul or cold tea nokcha is almost free in all place, but the price of caffe latte or tea in cafe sometimes much higher for small cup). It's good for your health too.

* Bring tupperware or lunch box. Almost all places in Korea serve such a big portion for one people. Sometimes they allow you to order 2 menus for 3 persons because they know South East Asia don't eat too much ^^.  Take your box so you can still eat your left-over when you stroll around the cold city.

* It's better for you to always take small umbrella, autumn foliage sometimes mean : A little romantic rain ^^

Eight Days in Seoul's Story - Day 1

Sunday, 11th November 2018

Incheon Airport - Myeongdong - Coex Mall - SM Town Centre - Myeongdong

Started with 3°C. It was so cold and we could feel that we were trapped inside the fridge ^^.
We arrived at Terminal 1 Incheon Airport. It took a while with the immigration things and we grabbed our luggage. After all things finished we went to information service to ask about bus service. So, the information guy said that we could check the bus by the information guide touchscreen (In hangul and english). Then we met two choices, bus number 6001 or 6015 to our backpacker place in Myeongdong. Both of the buses were parked in front of gate number 5B. But the 6015 would stop around uniqlo myeongdong (which mean we have to stroll around Myeongdong and walked across the main road to our place), and the 6001 would stop near the MRT station and we just had to take a short walk to the backpacker place. So we decided to take the 6001 bus. A middle aged man that didn't speak English help is when we waited for the bus and told the driver that we wanted to be dropped off at Myeongdong.

So here we go, we topped up our T-money in "CU shop"(You can buy T-money in the  convenience store). We topped up ₩30.000 /each person. You can use T-money for all transportation and when you buy something at convenience store. The bus rate was ₩14.000/person from Incheon to Seoul(You can pick bus/train/MRT to go to Seoul, the cheapest one was MRT, but it really difficult when you have to carry big luggage with you and take long stairs to MRT station).

Foliage

It took about an hour to arrive in Seoul, but I made quite mistake because I was so tired but overwhelming at once because of the beautiful autumn scenery. For the first time we saw yellow ginko, red maples, golden sugar maples and brown trees. "Ooh, so this is called Autumn foliage, now I know", that was my thoughts at that time. All was so gloomy but pretty.

Traffic in Seoul

Finally we saw that "pacific hotel" symbol which mean we'd already near our backpacker place. We forgot to order early check in, so we just dropped our things at lobby and went to "Chicken two two" to have lunch.  We ordered half and half chicken which was standing for half fried and half marinated chicken. And I would like recommend the marinated one! We ordered french fries as well. I think one plate of chicken and fries are enough for three persons, but if you a big eater, I suggest you to order some rice/bap. After that, we went back to our backpacker place and before that we went to minimart to buy hot Hersey milk choco drink and it tasted so damn good because of the cold weather.  After that we stayed in our backpacker place underground lobby which was warm and at around 02.30 pm we could enter our room as they promised. At 04.00 pm, our friend, Chaca came and brought dried leaves.

--"Hi, Potter, did you se my glasses?" ^^
Got MRT train and headed to Coex Mall to see how the local spending their time in a 'not-so-big' mall but the popular one. It took almost an hour from Myeongdong to reach Coex Mall with MRT. Then here we were, trapped in such a big library with some book shelves that seemed to be written in a Harry Potter book, that kinda magical giant library. The place was warm enough and become a best choice to runaway from that cold temperature and a little rain outside the mall. It wasn't a really bright room, but in every corner of that place, a cute yellow lamp was placed on a little table to light up the athmosphere.

In the corner of the room, there was a couple who read book and discussed about it, while behind them there was a young man read novel and drinking his coffee. There was a big and large table with some charging ports was placed in the centre of the room, so anyone who want to read or work there can bring laptop and feel comfortable. This place served so many good books from A-Z, written by locals and foreign author in Hangul and English. So, that was a heaven for all of you, bookworms...! ^^

Library Galaxy Lamps

When we got there we hanged out for a while in Starfield Library, ate dinner at foodcourt, buy some soap in Pierro shop and went to SM town centre. In SM town centre Chaca and me bought postcards and took some photos near some SM artist's awards. We saw some giant poster of popular korean singers, the trophy, the concert pics and souvenir. I was not really into Korean popular singer, so we just strolled around for a while.

SM Artist Collage

At night, we went back to Myeongdong and bought street foods like mochi, fishbread(bungeoppang),egg cake(gyeranppang) and strawberry mochi (dakkogi). The best bungeoppang or fish bread were in front of Myeongdong station and inside Myeongdong street.

Eight days in Seoul's Story - The day that wasn't counted

Saturday, 10th November 2018

That day, the temperature in Bandung was 23 °C. So me, my sister and mom took a grab car at 03.00 p.m from home and arrived at 04.00 p.m at Husein Sastranegara Airport. Then we had early dinner at chinese noodle house in front of the departure lobby. I ordered butter sauce chicken and hot sweet tea at that time. After a very long dinner, we went to lobby to buy bread and hot tea. Our plane was ready to fly at 07.40 p.m transited to Kuala Lumpur and arrived at 10.40 p.m. We took off from Kuala lumpur at 12.50 a.m and arrived at Incheon Korea at 08.20 a.m in the morning.

Bus from Incheon to Seoul

Seoul Station

Tips of the day:

* It's better for you to take the all-night-flight from Indonesia to South Korea (Unless you take the direct flight without spending time for transit)so you will reach Seoul in the morning, drop your luggage at your hotel, get an early check in, take a short nap or clean yourself and spend the rest of the day to stroll around the city.

*Don't forget to exchange not only Korean won, but also a little bit of Malaysian ringgit to buy some food in airport. The exchange value sometimes change rapidly in a mean time.

* The second tips is it's good for you to wear flexible pants instead of jeans or skirt so you will be comfortable enough when taking 6-hour-flight or longer flights. And it's nice to wear cozy Tshirt with sweater or hoodie too, it will get colder inside the plane ^^)

*Put your warm coat at the top of your luggage (inside your suitcase), so it's easier to use it when you get out from airport lobby. (it's really cool in autumn, the temperature is between 2 C - 10 C.
